Sebastian Priaulx Keeps Sharp With Thrilling Sim Racing

Motor racing fans may be denied seeing their sport live or on TV, but that doesn’t mean the drivers they follow are sitting at home doing nothing. One example is Sebastian Priaulx, who is super busy despite being on his home island of Guernsey with the nearest race track a long way away.

The Covid-19 lock down has put a temporary halt to all on track racing, but the 19-year-old Multimatic Motorsports racer is making the most of this time to hone his sim racing skills.

“When the lock down was first announced I was worried about how I would keep busy and on top of the game in terms of racing. However, in many ways I have never been busier and have been enjoying some great races against top class competitors. We racing drivers are lucky to have so many series now becoming virtual and just a few of the ones I have been taking part in are IMSA, The Race All-Star, British Formula 4 and the May Isolation Series in Dallara Formula 3. I think all motorsport fans have embraced esports and seen that we can still entertain them with live streaming and YouTube making it very accessible. However, I still can’t wait to get back doing the real thing,”he said.

Sebastian was lucky enough to race at the iconic Daytona track in Florida in January in the Michelin Pilot Challenge supporting the 24-hour race there, but since then, apart from keeping fit, sim racing alongside his father, triple world champion, Andy Priaulx, has been pretty full on.“I have a great racing season lined up once we get the green light and I am very happy and excited about the future. I also want to say a big thank you to my loyal sponsors, Plus Interiors and Ravenscroft, who are supporting me and I can’t wait to get back in my car to show them that I have lost none of my competitive edge,”he commented.

The deal Sebastian has with Multimatic Motorsports is a multi-year one, having signed this at the beginning of the year after a successful season with the squad last year in the British GT Championship. In 2019 he partnered with Scott Maxwell in their Ford Mustang and finished runners-up in the GT4 championship standings.
